Leucistic Texas Rat sick?????

elliebug2005 Nov 10, 2005 07:37 PM

She is 2 years old we've had her for 6 months with no problems. She had been fed f/t fuzzies. She has stopped eating and we've not been too worried about it(it's been since Oct.20th)but tonight I noticed a "spot" on her side. It looks like the scales are shriveled(?)and there is a little redness around them. She is active and her temps are 80's on the warm side and 70's on the cool side. She has fresh water and her substrate is papertowels. If you need more info.let me know.I've put a call into the Vet.but he's in emergency surgery and won't avail.until tomorrow.I'm worried NOW though.

I failed to mention that she looks like she is losing weight.

I hope you have been in contact with your veterinarian by now, but I believe you should be safe for a day or two until you can be seen. I apologize for not getting to you sooner.

If not yet done, try to verify the weight loss with actual weights. Two to three weeks is not an overly long time to be off food, however I'm uncertain as to what the spot is. It may be a sign of trauma, and pain is a very good reason to loose your appetite. This is often the only symptom of pain in reptiles.

Let me know what your vet finds

Good luck!

Ian

ps, in the mean time, if you're still waiting on an exam, perhaps elevate your high side temps by 5F. Verify your husbandry is correct on the rat snake forum...
