Going in circles with my bps

ncary Nov 11, 2005 11:45 AM

First off:
spring 05 1. Normal bp 500 grams
summer 05 .1 lemon pastel bp 350 grams

So it seems once I get my Bps feeding they are great for a couple weeks then they go off feed. I probed (Just learned) them to double check what i was told last summer and everything is what i expected but now they wont eat. This happened about a month ago when I was trying to switch them over to rats but after a 2.5 weeks of a hunger strike they started swollowing small rats.

I also learned it isn't great to house a small rat project in the same room. 1.2 and 17 rat pups. Someone said that the snakes will get use to the smell and wont see them as food anymore. Well today i bought a air deodorizer and hopefully it takes away most if not all the smell from the rats. Will this work?

Any insight, suggestions, I would just like to get on a set path of feeding and not feel like my walking in circles with my pets.

Not only that but I don't really want to be working with snakes when you have the smell of their food around. Not that a ball bite is anything to worry to much about but not something I want to get bit buy all the time!

I've got all my critters in the basement. Snakes, lizards and rodents. Always have. I don't have any problem with anyone eating or mistaking me for food. Which is NOT to say it couldn't happen. Just not in my situation so far. LOL, when I get bit I'll consider a seperate rodent room.

Im not concerned with getting bit. Im concerned with my bps not feeding. I dont know if they're just pissed i probed them or theyve grown use to the smell of the rats in my room and dont see them as pray anymore.

I raise my rats, have my ball pythons and corn snakes all in one room that is 12x12. So it is kind of tight. My snakes eat like champs, they don't come at me like I am a giant sized rat when I open their tub. I think it could be that it is just that time of year when the balls start going off feed.
One of my males last year went off feed in October of last year and didn't eat for 6 months. I just fed him a medium rat a hour ago. There is just no figuring these guys out sometimes.
