Meal worms...questions and tips

arboreals Jul 22, 2003 02:04 PM

I'm looking to start breeding meal worms for my striped possum. I'll have 2 more striped possums commin in soon. So how exactly do i do this? I've read put them on grain and take the beatles out and put them into another bin. Is it that easy? Also where is the cheapest place to buy them from? I'm going to start out with about 3000 so i can get them moving on the breeding part, and still be able to feed some off. Thanks in advance i really appreshiate it!

Its actually quite simple... You can put them on a substrate of ground dog food, rolled oats and crushed cereals...or baby cereal..cornmeal.. bran meal.. anything grain based.. feed them greens and veggies for moisture... potatoes apples, carrots, leaf greens like kale, turnip and mustard greens.. collard greens... and you should be set.. You can pick up a 3 tiered drawer system for like.. $5 at a dollar store or something.. set that up and as you get beatles out of 2 drawers you can put them in the 3rd...They stay at room temp so its quite easy....
