feeding insects and substrate question

cee4 Nov 11, 2005 12:41 PM

Do any of you feed insects? Like roaches and if you do how do you feed them if you have a wood chip/bark substrate?
My tegu is not eating so I want to try insects but it wont come near a dish either, should I change its substrate from cypress mulch to newspaper?

I use cypress and feed roaches. But I use a non-climbing species of roach (B. Dubia). I put them in a plastic bowl when I feed and they can't climb out. I use a flat bottom, square "Gladware" type bowl and push the bowl down in the mulch so it's not easy for the tegus to tip over. Works great.

I actually have a colony of orangeheads that Im starting and they cant climb either...The glad type bowl might work, its clear and my tegu can easily see all the bugs moving about, maybe that will tempt him to eat..
