I wanted to find out what a good perch diameter would be for a Chondro. Im in the process of building a pair of new enclosures. The plan would be to use pvc (texturized with the torch method), and possibly switch over to natural brances later.

Has anyone noticed if the GTP's prefer a particular diameter or material?

What material do you all use for perches?

Has anyone noticed if the pythons like to sit on a wide spot where the perch brances?

Any novel perch ideas?

My experience is that gtps prefer a perch with a girth that is slightly slimmer than they are. No fat branches!

I've been told that the diameter should be about equal to the largest part of the body. Mine seems to like any size as long as it's not too big or small. She likes bigger over smaller though. That's just her though. I tried the textured PVC and my chondro had a hard time with shedding, so I've switched back to natural branches. I just cut some from my sycamore. They have some real texture to them, they hold the humidity better, and I just think they look nicer. I know lots of people use the PVC and perhaps I didn't burn mine enough, but I like the natural look anyway. This evening she shed, and unlike the last shed, this one was perfect.
