Dilema; maybe got a bad deal

Hoopy Jul 22, 2003 02:41 PM

Ok here is my story. I bought 1.2 100% het. for albino balls about 8 months ago. Since then I have heard some very bad things about the guy I bought them from. I will not mention a name. You can email me for that if you like. Anyways, he said he had 1 clutch of 3.4 from an Albino male to a normal female. Later I find out that 3 other people bought 100% het females frm him. One of the people who bought 1.3 from him found out later that the snakes he bought were all males except one. The other guy who told me he bought all 4 females from that clutch still obviously doesn't know if they are actually hets. yet either due to there age. My dilema is this. I have an Albino Male that I was going to breed to these 2 females,an but if I got screwed anthey are actually normal I would not want to breed them to the male (I would use them with another male from another morph that I have). In this situation would you guys still breed them to the albino male or write off your lose and call the females normal?????????????????

Well the only way to know for sure is to breed them out. Who knows, maybe you got lucky even though he really did rip others off. The only thing for sure is that unless you breed them out, you won't know for sure.

Maybe get two "normals" for the other morph project. Might as well breed these two to the albino just in case. Then at least you will know and worse case you will still produce 100% hets.

What did he say exactly? Because the babies are hard to tell whether they're male or female, especially ball pythons. If he saids he knows exactly what sex they are, then he is lying, and thus, would not trust him and you probably did get screwed. If he saids something that is too good to be true, I would think that it is too good to be true, especially if he is not being honest and tell you upfront that he is absolutely sure. Or, on the other hand, he really thinks he knows, but doesn't...or could have done DNA tests.

I can tell for sure what sex my balls are.....at any age.....

babies I pop and adults I probe (or just give them to my big male and see what happens....).....

.......DNA?.....I wonder if the het gene would even sow up?...

anyone have alot of money and want to do a study?....would be intresting....

.......anyways...

as for the origional dilema.....breed them to the albino male...and if you get 0 albinos...find te guy and kick his ass and get money back????

sounds like a plan....

I have some hets going to maybe go this coming year.....

and if I get 0 albinos......I am driving southerly.......>and getting some snake satisfactions....

yep

This brings up a good point, do you ever get babies that seem to be trans-gender or something like that? I would expect them to be rather rare but does it happen some times?

I'm just learning to pop so I'm having my vet double check the ones I think are female and so far this is the first year I've been 100% right (only 24 babies so far). However, there was one that I was particularly unsure of. I saw like 3 things pop out. They didn't look big enough to be hemipeens so I thought maybe ducts or something (2 on one side though?). Vet agreed female but she probed on the deep end. I guess I'll know for sure if she eventually lays good eggs.

If “she” didn't have the keeper markings that I'm looking for I'd sell her to a pet store and not worry about it. I’ve raised enough male/male pairs up from back in the day when I had experienced friends sex snakes for me for free (part of the reason I’ve been so cautious about learning to sex them, seems a lot of people do it wrong, why should I be any better?).

I do mess up at times.....I think it is due to mixing snakes up(cages)...and selling the wrong one?...and keep[ing the male and not the females?....make sence....or even messed up cards....?.....I will never actually admit to popping a snake wrongly...I do not know if I ever did...probably yes...but I usually triple check....then at shows....alot of people don't trust anyone anyways...so they want you to pop it again in front of them anyways.......waaaaaaa....LOL
(some people want to take it to get probed or popped by another peson...I tell them...as soon as I get the money you can let anyone mess with it tat you like...until then...I do it right here...).....(I do not need someone else screwing up my animals then not buying them......).....

and I actually never made a snake bleed from probing them...one half a drop maybe but that would be it....and it is rare....hear stories of some epeople actually probing and having blood run out afterwards...ouch...(not an amateur either)LOL....

........as for trans genders........funny you sould mention it....oddest thing I ever had from thousands of snakes....was this week....a cornsnake....came out of egg...ad what looked like a pene sticking out of it's vent....so I popped to see the second one?....nothing....so...after it sheds I will see wat appens...maybe a half male?...maybe a chunk of skin from the scent glands?...but it never shed...so how?...and it is the size of a pene.....?....I cannot sell it for male or female...it is marked as a ? right now...and will probably go to store....someone will probably kill it soon after purchase anyways....I hope not...crimsons are cool.....

........the oddest part of probing....girls probe at 3 to 6 sub-caudals....males from 9 to 12....and if we probe alot of snakes they go to 7...???what the heck is a 7.........?????????some were male and some were female...majority female ....I hate te 7 count ones...I prefer 5's and 11's....*(of course numbers depend on species*)...but I usually don't have a count number list available when you need it.....

.......for balls......I ad a female...2 years old...I got sick of it not eating...so I threw it in males cage...e kicked it's butt...oops...male...he knows more than me....so I use my 2 BIG male balls to recheck my females....LOL....they work....

where are you getting your info knot?

who has a "dna test" for a het albino gene?

and baby ball pythons are one of the EASIEST snakes to sex, if you are experienced, it should be very close to 100% by popping them.

is your local pet store "expert" feeding you some bull? cause your thougts on this are straight up goofy...

If nothing else, you get 100% hets and you know for sure! You may or may not get albinos out of the deal, but if you don't you got your self some true hets
