Sad news (off topic)

DanW Nov 12, 2005 12:28 PM

A few days ago my wife experienced severe pain down both arms and across her chest. She had been doing some heavy lifting and laundry as of late. The ER said it was muscle pain caused from over exertion. The pain came back stronger than ever 2 days later. Another trip to the ER and they found EKG changes. A heart cath found significant blockage in the LAD. She will have heart surgery on Monday. She is only 40 years old with few heart problems in her family. I wanted to tell everyone this for a few reasons:
1. Don't ever underestimate your aches and pains.
2. Don't think your age is your saving grace.
3. And most importantly, so everyone will pray for her. God does incredible things for those who ask. Her name is Kathleen Wilson. In a few days I will have good news about how much progress she has made.

Peace,
Dan Wilson

thoughtful enough to post. Most people think if they are young or thin this won't happen. It is a silent killer and can happen to anyone.
I will pray for your wife. You are both in our thoughts.

Dan and Kathleen, My families prayers are with you. I want to let you know or at least reassure you that with todays advances in cardiology, Kathleens findings and scheduled surgery is not a death sentence or cause to be in the bed from now on. Don't look at this as a bad thing because not finding it when you did would have caused a much worse outcome. Please look at this as a blessing. Finding it and correcting it now will give you two a much longer time together with the quality of life you dreamed of when you started your life together. I have personally seen the positive outcomes. As a paramedic in the system that I work in, we preach and teach what I have just spoke of. Again, we will be thinking of you both. Take care, AJ

I'm a cardiac cath lab tech and I would seek a second open before a cabg. If her stenosis is at the left main then cagb is her only option. But if it just her lad then a good interventionalist could ptca and place a drug eluding stent and avoid open heart. Grafts from a cabg typically last only 10 years. Either way, good luck.

DanW Nov 13, 2005 11:35 AM

The stenosis is above the LAD. It affects what looks like two branches that meet to form the LAD. The top branch is 90% and the lower is 80%. The stenosis goes all the way to the osseus. If a CABG is done she is committed to a clean lifestyle that is in strict accordance with doctors orders. I want this never to happen again. Is this a realistic goal?

Thanks,
Dan

I'm sorry that happened, but, I'm glad you guys got a second chance, and they found the real problem before it was super late. Keep faith in God and believe all our prayers and yours. Everything will be fine. Best wishes, God bless you both.
