Well known reptile photographer, Michael Kern took this photo of my newborn Mojave. He has more photos at www.thegardensofeden.org

He also took this wonderful shot of one of my Kanburi Tree Vipers. I never noticed how red they were until this photo.

That is a beautiful photo, but are you sure of that ID?

It's always hard to say from a picture, but that sure looks more like an atrox, at least from the head scales. As much as atrox and scutes cross, it is probably a moot point anyway!!

Thanks for the great shot.

the seller said it came from captive bred Mojave parents, not a wild caught mother. But who know for sure especially if they cross in the wild? Interesting though, the babies were highly variable and here is another baby mojave specimen I received with a large black spot on both sides of its rear head area.

I have to agree with Hugh on that first snake. Looks like an atorx to me as well. The second animal you posted looks a little more like a scute but also has a bit of a viridis or atrox look too. The black spots are interesting as well. If you just showed me a section of it's dorsum from the neck back a little ways it looks like the pattern of a baby gopher snake.

You both are sorta right and I made a mistake. He took so many pics of my large collection and I thought he only took a pic of my baby mojaves and totally forgot he took a pic of my baby ruber, so when I saw the pic to identify, I automatically said mojave without looking closely. That first pic I showed of the snake on the sand is indeed Crotalus ruber, the Red Diamond Rattlesnake which closely looks like atrox. Sorry
