ENHYDRIS

jonasgn Nov 12, 2005 01:58 PM

Hello
Can someone tell me how potent the venom from Enhydris species is?
I`m thinking of buying a pair of Enhydris chinensis, and would like to know the potency of their venom.
And i would also like to know if some of the Enhydris species have more potent venom than others.

Thanks a lot
Jonas

None of the Enhydris bites are going to be lift-threatening or even severe. Large species may be able to cause some prolonged bleeding, a bit of swelling and some stinging but nothing worse than that. As with the vast majority of colubrids, if you are a bit concerned about bite effects simply wearing long sleeve shirts and light gardening gloves solves all your problems.
