Where have all the speckles gone?

DavidKendrick Nov 12, 2005 09:09 PM

Over the years I have watched the evolution of the Hog Island boas, Years ago I fell in love with the Hog Island boa, and back then they where kinda rare. They usually had lots of speckles, and recently there has been "New Blood" for sale, that are also speckled. All the C.B. Babies born today have little or no speckling, and it seems as though people have basicly bred out the speckles in the Hog Island. Just curious what others thought about speckling in Hog Islands, and if you like them or not. I know several of you have worked with Hog Islands for a while, have you noticed the change in Hog Islands? And there seems to be a Huge range of difference in what Hog Islands look like...Here is a pic of my Hog Island what do you think? She has lots of speckles, which I kinda like. Thanks to all of those who reply...

I don't know where the speckles have gone, but can say that I like them in Hogs. I recently purchased my first Hog and she isn't speckled much at all. Speckled or not, I am really enjoying her. I know very little of their plight in captivity. I'm curious to see where they go from here since so many are being used in breeding to other BCI's. I'll be looking for a pretty little male Hog next season for breeding in the future.

i havent been into hogs for long, and still dont own one. i do however like the speckels on that one. i also like speckels on all snakes as long as there are a lot, not just a few.

There are obviously speckled hogs out there, but you don't see many offspring born with them... Maybe the toasty warm captive enviorment they spend their gestaion in has a role in less black pigment showing up in the litters.. It works that way for some other reptiles... Somthing to think about anyway..
