How long?

twps Nov 12, 2005 10:10 PM

I weighed all my BP's this week and the 2 largest normal females were 900 grams everyone else weighed in right around 500-600 grams. With a normal feeding schedule (once a week) how long does it take to get them up to 1500 grams or so. On average it seems like most people talk two years from hatching to breeding size if I understand correctly. As I dont know the age of my snakes I was hoping to get into all the fun next year, but I dont want to rush by power feeding them. Do they have the potential to be of breeding size next season or the one after that? Also what would you consider a healthy growth rate per month?

Average 2.5-3.5 years. I'd say a nice rate of growth is 800-1000g in the first 18 months and another 600-800 grams in the next year. This would get you there in 2.5 years.

Good luck!

Hey thanks, Christy. Do you think there is hope for the big girls this year?

I'd say there is not much chance of them getting to 1500 - whether you want to breed them smaller is something you have to decide.

Even though they might reach 1500 grams, they still might not be ready. Remember, 1500 grams is just a guideline. I had a 1600 female this year that was not as plump as she should have been for her length.

No I'm not in a rush to breed the snakes before they are ready, I was just eanting to get a feel for the time. Just like that song anticapation lol. Well still plenty of other shows to go and morphs to drool on then. Besides Ive been having a lucky streak seems like so you never know what else will come my way.
Thanks, Jay
