Best time to purchase?

bpconnection Nov 13, 2005 09:53 AM

Does there tend to be a "best" time to purchase balls, so far as prices? Beginning of the season, middle, end? What do the trends tend to be?

I ask b/c I'd like to pick up a het female for a couple different morphs next year and just wondering when the "best times" are.

In my experience if it is just a purchase from a breeder that you haven't had past sales with the middle of the season is the best. Most people have hatched out their animals and the prices tend to be more competitive. On the other hand at the end of the season alot of animals have either been sold or fed heavily and you must pay for the added size, this is also true for early season babies, you pay because they may breed for you next season. My advice would be to get in touch with some breeders now and set up good relations, you will get much better deals in the future. Josh Hutto........JKReptiles

At the beginning of the season, people are flooding the market with animals. In the middle of the season, you find those that really want to unload. At the end of the season, you find the really desparate. That being said, at the beginning of the season, you might pay more to get an "early" animal that could be ready to breed sooner, in the middle of the season, most people are not in a rush to sell, at the end of the season, they are getting fat. I myself normally keep them through the winter and sell when they are much larger and established.

Point of my diatribe: keep your eyes open.
