Hemipenal Prolapse with argus monitor Please Help

hbailey Nov 13, 2005 11:41 AM

I just bought a pair last week. After letting them get used to the new home, I decided to get them out and noticed that the male has a prolapse. I'm trying to find a vet now, but if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.

Hi,
Try applying some mineral oil (not cooking oil!) to his hemi with a Q-tip and some warm water = he may be dehydrated....good luck! Sometimes they go back in, sometimes they do not....
Good Luck!

I'll try putting him in a tub of warm water.

Thanks

Make sure you keep him in a very clean environment as possible and take him to the Vet ASAP.

But I wouldn't use mineral oil. You do want to keep it moist, but with something that will be absorbed instead of just covering the tissue. Warm saline, eye drops, or just regular water (probably in that order) is the best. You can use a damp towel substrate for the day leading up to your vet visit. Keep humidity up to ~100% for this short time.

www.arav.com and/or it's link to herpvetconnect and/or referals from your local vet clinics will help you with your vet search.

Good luck

Ian
