Here's one of my tanks.
hey bro awsome setup. How did you make those caves, the tan ones on the right? I really dig em
Thanks for the comments.
The caves are Rubbermaid containers flipped upside down. I RTVed (silicone, fish tank sealer) a few together.
Painted the inside tan. Then used the RTV to make a thin layer on the outside of the containers. Then playsand is dumped on the RTV. Excess shaken off and allowed to dry.
Awesome setup....but Im curious as to what type of tyles you are using and how deep is the sand??
Thanks for the comment.
The sand is around 1/2" deep. This is to help create a gradient with the heat and get better heating on the tile, as the underside is very uneven.
The tiles came from Lowes. They are 12" X 12" tiles. They charge .25 cents a cut. They had a few that I liked, but I thought these would look most realist for the set up.
thanks for the info..I hope you don't mind if I steal the idea for my tank!!!! its awesome and it looks a lot cooler than the paper towel idea....btw what type of heating do you use for your tank and how do you have the hideboxes setup...is the one on the hot side moist and the one on the cool side dry? or do you have both moist and dry on the hot side?? thanks for any information
hey bro, what kind of paint did you use to paint the rubbermade containers? Just curious cause i wanna paint some of mine but wanna get something that wont hurt or be unhealthy for my leos.
luvinemgeckos,
I like to have natural looking setups. The first setup I had many years ago was play sand. I never had any impaction problems but this time around I want to be absolutely safe, so I went with tile that looks just as good and much easier to keep clean.
For my heating I use an undertank heater.
As for moist hides I have 2 in the tank. I have moist and dry hides on the hot and cool sides.
meltz
I was not sure that I’d still have the paint as I made the hide around 12 years ago. I looked out in the garage and found this, Painter’s Touch by Rust-Oleum Gloss Almond. I’m 99% sure that is what I used, as I do not use much stray paint and do not know what I would have sprayed an Almond color other then the hide.
