Weird Question

freon546 Nov 13, 2005 05:25 PM

I know this sounds really weird but, i was kinda wanting to get a couple pet rats in addition to my ball python.

yeah yeah, i know, i know.

I wont let them out at the same time and i will wash my hands before holding the snake. My question is this: will my ball python forever be going crazy over the scent of the rats? I hear rats scent mark things, will this make my snake aggresive?

oh, and no it doesnt both me to play with pet rats and then turn around and feed a f/t rat to my snake.

I had a pet rat in my room with 3 ball pythons.
It neer affected their temperment in my case.
Damien, my bog male, was a bit more active when I had the rat, but that is never bad.

Pet rats are awesome, and I have a pair that i used to use for breeding for my monitors, and now I just have them as pets, my ball has never gotten nosy about it but carpet python always tried to get to them so I put them in another area of the house.
thanks

Having pet rats shouldn't effect the disposition of your ball pythons. It certainly never has affect mine. However you do need to wash your hands after handling your rats before handling your ball pythons.

Male rats do scent mark but it isn't noticeable to humans, unlike male mice which have a very strong musky scent.
