Update on Pudge and Trinity

gecko117 Nov 13, 2005 07:01 PM

How's it going?

I couldn't find my other thread. So, here's an update the last time I posted was around 8-11. It's now 11-13, and Pudge and Trinity have grown. Trinity has been eating VERY nicely, and outgrew Pudge, Pudge has been having eating problems, so we took him to the vets. The vet gave us Lactulose solution to make him poop. It's been going pretty well, I've been have to baby food feed him, which he doesn't like. And he hasn't been eating crickets.

So, just today, while I was cleaning everybody's cages, I took some small mealworms from one of my three adults cages, I gave Pudge a mealworm after I gave him his daily medicine, and he stalked it and ate it. I gave him 4 more for a total of 5, I didn't want to impact him, and I wanted to know if this is ok?

Pudge is about 5 1/2 inches long and Trinity is about 6 inches long..

P.S.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier to your post here's what you said..

"Wanted to ask if you are in the US. mulberryfarms.com told me they are canadian and dont ship to the us. Thanks for your story about Pudge and Trinity...loved reading it, was very informative."

Yes I live in the United States. Even though everybody says that silkworms are healthlier and whatnot than mealworms, I found them an inconvience because they actually produce silk, when you try to take them out of the packaging; they stick to the case and it takes a while to pull them off with a spoon and within 2 or 3 days they die..

The second part of your question, the Mulberry Farms package came from somewhere in California.. so I don't think they are canadian, maybe they lied to you or something?

I'm glad you enjoyed my story on Pudge and Trinity

Glad to hear your Leos are doing good. As for Pudge and the mealworms, don't worry he'll be fine. Since he's not been eating I think stopping at 5 was a good idea, but only because he's not been eating & you don't want him to regurgitate due to overeating in this case. If he eats them again tomorrow you might let him have a couple more than 5 even. The chances of mealworms causing impaction are extremely low. I've never ever actually heard of anyone who has had a Leo impacted due to feeding mealworms. Many breeders use mealworms as their only feeder so I really doubt there's much of a risk. Hope he keeps eating for ya !!

Thanks for your response, I'll try to steadily give him mealworms and try to give some to Trinity and ween her on mealworms, because personally I hate crickets...

I know, I hate nasty, smelly crickets too. I recented started a colony of Discoid roaches so hopefully in a couple of months I can be cricket-free LOL I have replaced mealworms with superworms, I hated messing with having mealies hanging out in the refrigerator. I have started trying to breed superworms, should have my 1st set of beetles within about 2 weeks. I won't have to order those anymore if all goes well. I have to order them online in order to get the small/med sizes for my hatchlings/juvies.
