my first corn

pixiebabelove Nov 13, 2005 11:14 PM

Actually it is also my first snake. I've always had lizards because my mom hasn't allowed me to keep snakes ever before (but she would let me breed and keep dozens of bearded dragons in my bedroom) but yesterday I finally just brought one home.

I named it Reggie. Sorry for the crappy pics but I didn't want to use flash and disturb it. Can anyone tell me what morph it is? How long should I wait until I start handling it? I've had it for only 24 hours and I'm beginning to think I'm more of a snake person.

Thanks!

Looks to me like a nice little amelanistic, otherwise known as a red albino. Hard as it may be, it's better to not handle them for at least four days. Not sure why four days, or if snakes can tell time, but that's the usual recommended time.

I got my first snake, a corn, about two months ago, after having and breeding lizards for a few years.. I now own eight. It's a recognized addiction. Have fun!

Thanks! I'm already itching to get another one... haha

Do you know how I can sex it?

phiber_optikx Nov 14, 2005 04:58 AM

take it to the vet to have it sexed. Shouldn't cost more than $20 and that is expensive. Welcome to the addiction!

Just fine! He/she is about as active as my orange albino black rats. I have renamed it Onyx though. Gets the first meal tomorrow. I am amazed at how thick it is compared to how long.

I just got my first corn about a month ago and I am soooooo addicted to her. I call her skittles cause of her colouring. She is orange and yellow . I waited a day to handle her. She was use to being handled all the time. Now I am looking to get more.

Congrats on the snake. I'm a new corn snake owner myself and I'm not sure but it looks like an red albino or reverse to me also. It definately is an addiction, I got my first about a month ago. I bought my third this past Saturday. YIKES!!! I don't plan on breeding them,I just think they're really cool, I have a normal, a butter and a candy cane. All 05's.

Sweet! I love how the candycanes look. Once I break the news to my mom, I think I'll get another corn snake, most likely a candy corn or maybe a sunglow.
