Doorknob snake

wisekwai Nov 13, 2005 11:30 PM

I am having trouble identifying this snake. It was found wrapped up around the doorknob (link shows another view) of my back door one morning last week after a night of heavy rain.

This is in suburban Bangkok, Thailand.

I'm thinking it could be a rat snake, but the markings are unlike any rat snakes I've seen around my home. It might be a striped keelback, which likes to feed on small frogs and lizards (lots of those around my house, too), but again the markings don't jibe with what I've seen in the snake books.

What other information do I need to supply for assistance in this matter?

I'd say Elaphe Radiata-Copperhead Ratsnake. Link to photo below:

That's it. Beautiful snake. Love the pattern around the eyes. Many thanks!
