Monday morning infusion of nice Boa photos and also some....

RioBravoReptiles Nov 14, 2005 08:23 AM

.. good-natured jabs at my Morph friends (yes, I do have friends that are in that camp).
.
Examples of Common boas from here.. in no particular order..
.
A vigorous and perfect litter of Colombin boas..
.

.
..a juvenile with a nice soft color-tone.

Saying hello to the world.
.

.
See your favourite High$$ Morph in this next one?
.

.
What do you call a common boa with a tail like this?
.

.
.. or even this?
.

.
A male from a litter in '03
.

.
Male breeder...
.

.
These are what I grew up with (and grew to love) as Common Boas or Colombian redtails.. They are big healthy snakes, have good manners and will breed if they are taken care of..
.
You can go to a lot of shows and not see many of (what I consider) a real nice Colombian Boa.. The traits that combine to make a strong-patterned, colourful and contrasted boa like those above have in many cases been bred out in the pursuit of the ever more pale or patternless snake.. or replaced with some dominant trait like the Salmons, which produce litters endlessly more alike. On the other hand, it is likely that standout Morphs, like the Sharp albinos probably started with very pretty, and patterned snakes.. not just any boa that would mature early and have a lot of babies.
.
I have real interest in some of the new MORPHs like the leopard boas, So-called Aztec boas and others with heavy pattern and pigment.. Who knows.. something like these original nice boa will pop out by accident when they are bred back to all the pale and washed-out lines!!!
.
Yes! I'm making a little fun (in a friendly way) of all the labels placed on Boas! I hope no one is seriously offended.
.
Be safe!

Third pic down I believe.

I love a thickly, richly patterned snake...I do not like the "patternless", tiger, vanishing pattern, fine-line sort of thing (in most cases). They tend to look like worms to me. I want contrasting color and thick patterns. Circle-Back Ladder-Tails have some of the best pattern. Thanks for posting those beauties.

dark side?

Honestly though, the pure mutations that have arrisen spontainiously (sp?) would benefit from your bloodlines.

Personally I prefer your Sonorans to all others, and think those combined with Leopards will provide nice results. We already know how nice the Hypos have been that you produce!

Besides, you did produce the first captive bred Nicaraguan Ghost boas, lol.

As you mentioned the Sharp Albinos, your Colombians would really add nice characteristics to the morph. When I look at OLD Sharps, that were not combined with other locales, or morphs such as Salmon, the Hets are very nice boas. In fact, look much like those that you produce.

Keep up the good work, everyone has a secret, lol.
