Is it over yet?

We finally got our rescued Ig 'Bud' into his new home (6ft high, 4.5 feet long, and about 2.5 feet deep)! It took less than 2 hours for him to start hissing and snapping at anything or anyone that dared tread into his domain (at least without a piece offering of the green kind). Which brings me to my question... Is mating season not over yet, and could it play a part in this or is he just happy in his new enlarged living quarters? He seems to be snapping more at my wife than me, but in all honesty, I've cheered a bit for him on that one! In either case he has been incredible so far and without meaning to seems to now be trained or attempting to be trained to go only in water... could be a bad thing, but it is easy to clean out.
