Need Info On Blood Python/Ball Python Breeding

boachick85 Nov 14, 2005 11:09 AM

I've been keeping and breeding balls and bloods seperately for a few years now but have always loved the way the blood balls looked and thought I'd give it a go this year but would like to read up on hybrid breeding first. Also, is it better to breed a male ball to a female blood or a male blood to a female ball? Don't get me wrong, I know hybrid breeding is a slow process and I probably won't succeed this year but ya gotta start somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Diana

Hi

First off choose your pairs carfully the best breeders you have if you have got many choose the for best colours and patterns.
your biggest female bloods and your biggest male balls.

do as you would normaly do running up to the breeding process, when they are ready to breed (Timing is important) get both pairs stimulated virtually to the point of coppulation then move the male ball and place him on top of your female blood, you may have to do this more than once before copulation takes place, once there is success you will need to copy the process as many times as you can over the next week or two.

i would say try with as many pairs as you can as often as you can, also you may be better off if you have someone to help with te swap process, ie to stop unwanted pair coppulating while you are waiting for the wright moment to move a snake over.

There is no guarantee that you will produce viable eggs but with luck you will.

also dont forget that if you dont have any luck with getting them to mate just carry on and mate your pure pairs..

also try keeping some fresh female ball shed with a small amount of water in a spray bottle and spray the female blood just prior to placing the male ball on top, helps stimulation.

Good Luck With Your Project.

Thanks for the reply, you are right, that is a bit expensive for me. I guess I will have to wait a bit (lot!) longer for those.

cheaper to make them yourself! if you produce them sell the parents and all but one baby youve earned money and got yourself a hybrid.

just buy proven breeders of both species and breed away without getting attached to the parents

I was reading over this forum and tryed your tip on using the shed skin "tea" spray it worked great.. I didn't use it to make hybrids but breeding boas. I have a female ghost boa I couldn't get any males interested in and a female albino all were interested in, made some skin tea, sprayed her with it and all of the males were interested in her. Good stuff bud! Works universaly..
