How old are they?

I would say that there are a few substrates that it would be "ok" to put them on, but not advisable. No matter what the substrate it, the leo is going to end up ingesting some of it and that is going to put a strain on their digestive system. Sometimes missed prey, even on paper towels, still results in my male leo pulling up some papertowel! Some people go with a fine playsand for adults and have no problems... but any kind of dirt is going to clump and that ingested could cause some major problems.
