What is so special about an Albino Hybrid Rock/Burm?????????

vcaruso15 Nov 14, 2005 01:41 PM

I just dont get it I can buy and adult female Albino Burm and an adult male Rock for about $500. If I breed them and then breed one of the male offspring to the Mom I have 100k babys. That must be the best investment ever!!!!! Please help me understand.

Yeah I just dont get it. I'm not a fan of hybrids in general but honestly that snake on the classifieds looks sickly to me. And I don't think it will sell at that price. It has been on the boards for several months now.

Probably because it exists. No joke... IF you did all the breeding there is to get one of those, there's no guarantee you would actually get one. Too many variables and possible genetic variations. Could be a unique comination that you might not be able to reproduce. Even though they have one, there is no guarantee it will be fertile. It does look a little weak, but you never know. Remember, that in the wild, an albino is a defective animal that doesn't usually survive. Not just because of it's own genetic internal makeup, but also because it's easier to be seen and eaten. Then there's the hybrid question of fertility, as not all are fertile. If there was a guarantee it could produce offspring, fine, but no one can guarantee that.

do you think its really that hard, or maybe its just that no one is trying to do it. I am almost tempted to try myself now, not for a 100k snake, but just to see how hard it is.

In the eyes of MOST reputable breeders. Hybrids are an abomination to the trade... No one is going to buy a $100k abomination. There is a big problem with "MUTANT BLACK RAT SNAKES" Simply because a black rat snake will breed anything of the same shape, an people are doing this and selling them as a NEW Corn morph, or whatever else. with an albino black rat and a couple of years you can have some pretty cool looking stuff. And you will pi$$ a lot of people off....

SAVE THE WORLD FROM MUTANT BLACK RAT SNAKES
.....and rock/burms!

I really don't think that they are too terribly interested in selling that one snake. If nothing else, they're creating a market for future Albino Rock/Burm Hybrids...

Just a thought.

Could be...if there turns out to be any more. Maybe there's 30 in a tank in their back room

I agree that probably this is an atempt to create a market as they now know they can breed them and would be x amount of years ahead of anyone else.

After seeing this thread I tried to find out some more information and it led me to this page http://www.highendherps.com/wst_page10.html

They say on there it is their only one and took six years etc to produce, however with breeding any python morphs/hybrids the time it takes to produce double hets raise them up and then breed back etc I would think six years wasn't that long. Especially if you're having to produce the parent animals yourself, which they almost certainly would have had to do.

The site looks good and their animals look great, have look in their gallery if you have a chance.

About the albino, pretty animal, but not 100k pretty

The classifieds are full of hyped up ads....have been for years. This ad is just another one of many...I didn't even raise an eyebrow at this one...you become numb to hype after a few years of combing through the classifieds.
