Request for some pics.......

Hotshot Nov 14, 2005 02:54 PM

I would like to know if any of you that keep normal Eastern, red, louisiana, pale, and coastal plains milks would like to share some pics! I know there are more milks in the hobby besides hondurans and pueblans. (Nothing against them, as they are great snakes too). Just would like to see some other stuff on here as well!
Thanks in advance!

These are Red X Eastern intergrades that occur naturally here in KY. These were all found within 15' of each other and in the intergadation range of northern KY.

The milks in this area are highly variable, and show traits of both syspila and triangulum.

This one is a classic example. Showing more Eastern coloring, but note the depth the saddles extend down the sides!

Here is one that has more red in the saddles, this was a gravid female...

And another shot of her...

Here is another darker one...

And the last one....

And one last shot of it....

Thoughts???? Comments??

Here's a pic of a Page County Va. Eastern Milk, located in the town of Luray. (Near Luray Caverns) A friend of mine now has her with plans of breeding her with one of his Va. locality males.

Here's a native US milk that's one of my favorites. Picture of my 05 annulata (Mexican Milk)
Love those Ky. intergrade pics you have. I myself would love to see some more N/A milks like celaenops, syspila, and some of the others. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks Brian. You can find some Easterns like the female I have pictured, but by and large the majority of Easterns tend to to have much less red/more dull colored.

Very nice photos Scott. How far into Texas does amaura range? Is the Houston area too far west? Beautiful little milks.

Steve

Steve_Craig Nov 14, 2005 10:50 PM

Scott, the counties you listed are right next to Houston, so I think that somewhat answers my question. Also Chrish listed grimes county, which is North West of Houston. Excellent finds.

Steve

scottofhouston Nov 14, 2005 11:33 PM

Thanks Steve. I dont think that amaura range any further west than the Brazos Valley. The counties I mentioned both border Harris County. I've looked for them in the northern parts of Harris County but havent found any as of yet. I have pics somewhere of one a friend of mine found in Burleson county. I will post it if I can find it.

Mike
I just looked at your loss website, man I dont know what to say. You lost 49 snakes in a span of a year???? That really sucks. Can I ask you a question, and I dont mean to be rude or anything, I am just curious. You started losing snakes to crypto, why did you have so many housed together?? You know that housing snakes together is a bad idea anyways, but man after losing so many snakes that way I would have had all of them seperated. Dang that is rough!

As for the mites, I have never heard of a snake dying because of a mite infestation, could it be that there was still some crypto floating around in your snake room and infected some of those as well?? Crypto is very hard to contain once it gets started. Especially if animals are kept on dirt substrate that stays moist and warm. Virtual breeding ground for the parasite.

Snakes that carry the parasite and show no symptoms can pass it on to others very easily, especially if they deficate in a water bowl and another snake drinks from it.
I clean my water bowls every 3 or 4 days and use hot soapy water and bleach mixture.
Good luck in the future and hope you have a better year in '06!!
