Smallest Non-climbing/flying Roaches

Mothi Nov 14, 2005 07:51 PM

What is the smallest non-climbing and non-flying roaches that I would be able to find without months of searching? I would like a roach species who has babies small enough for my pygmy cham to eat, if that is even possible. Thanks.

LOL Well, I did lots of research before buying roaches to start a colony myself. The smallest non-climbing, flying or jumping roaches I found were the Blatta lateralis (Turkistan Roach). Adults only get to about 1". I am feeding Leopard Geckos and didn't choose to go with these because these roaches are VERY fast. I don't know anything about Pygmy Cham's so I don't know how small a roach you need, but even with larger roaches the babies are really tiny, like 1/8" long. Here is a good site that gives details on 9 different species:

As I'm sure you've read in other posts, www.blaberus.com has come up. It is an awesome website with about a million species. Great, easy to read info too

I'm remodeling my house and haven't been able to hit the forums as much lately. Blatta lateralis is your roach. These guys are the same size as crickets and they lay egg cases which hatch out very tiny babies, so small you can babrely see them at first. With a simple set-up you can easily start a colony. I will not mention my website becasue the don't like that on the forums, but I was mentioned above and have caresheets under the help and support section of my site, plus I answers questions via email. From small to the biggest I have them all!!!
