She LOVES CGD!

jjjt4beck Nov 15, 2005 12:33 AM

This little girl LOVES her Crested gecko diet. I've been trying to boost her weight. She was a steady 15 grams as of this morning at 13 months old. As suggested, I've switched her to straight CGD, no babyfood, and she loves the stuff. I also lessed the amount of crickets I feed her, and I notice she's eating more CGD. I think we do about 4-5 crickets a week. And I dust them with CGD once a week and calcium once a week.
I'll keep you posted on the weight gain. Our goal is 35 so we can get her in with male and hopefully have some pretty babies.

You know - she may just be runty. She looks nicely proportioned. I'm sure she will grow - but she will have to really lengthen out to put on 20 more grams.

Are you sure your scale is accurate? hmmm . . . just curious. . . .

BTW - Nice looking crestie.

Thanks!
I'm sure my scale is pretty close to right. I checked it against some known weights, and it was right on...give or take a gram or two.
If she is runty, how will this effect my breeding her? I have a male who is 35 grams.

In my opinion, if she is too small, you don't breed her, both for her safety and also because it is not a desireable trait (again, in my opinion).

See what happens - but I don't really see where you are going to put on 20 more grams on that body - but I've been known to be wrong before.

Good luck.

I agree. I would never want to risk her health. Although I'm curious of anyone's experience with breeding a smaller female. Assuming she gets up to 25 grams, could she safely be bred then?
I'll weigh her again in a few weeks and see what happens.
This is her when we first got her. We didn't have a scale then, so I'm not sure of her exact weight.

And this is her a few days ago

Thanks for the help, Jamie

But 15 grams at 13 months??? I have 12 cresteds, most are around the 7-9 month old range, and they are over 25 grams, witht the 9 month olds are 28. It seems that your baby might be younger than 13 months...Most crestes are already adults by 13 months, and should be twice that weight..She is really pretty though, and thats cool she eats CGD.

I guess there is no way to be sure of her age. I bought her online from lowergroundreptiles. The lady said she was born last October.
I'll keep an eye on her and see what happens in the next few months.
