Ringnecks in Denmark

Asser Nov 15, 2005 09:21 AM

Hello,

I live in Denmark- Scandinavia, that is- and I have just gotten hold of a couple of ringneck snakes. I have gotten individuals of two different subspecies, the southern ringneck Diadophis p. punctatus and the northern ringneck, Diadophis p. edwardsii.

Not surprisingly, they are not the easiest feeders. It is unfortunately not possible for me to feed them frogs or lizards on a steady basis, since these are not availible in large quantities here in Denmark.

Has anybody got any advice on what to feed them instead? Any succes with transferring scent?

I hope somebody can help me.

Greetings, Asser

I am throwing in 20 bucks for you to get a new camera. Anyone else feel free to join in.

That northern may only take small salamanders. Small snakes and worms might work also, but I can only figure that the snakes may be difficult to obtain, much less the northern and possibly the southern are feeling sorta like hibernating now anyway. The southern should eat worms, guppies or small fish, cut fish pieces, slugs, and if large enough should eat defrosted scented pink mice. If nothing works, don't force feed and brumate them through winter and offer food in early spring. Good luck.

Oh, perhaps do a search of reptile dealers in your country or area and you may locate a source of feeder frogs?

Hello Asser,

Northern ringnecks are very fussy about their diet, their most favorite food is redback salamander and often they refuse to accept any orther kind of food. From my experience, the northern ringneck will usually refuse earth worms but when they are starving long enough, they will accept the earth worms as food gladly. Hope this help.
