B W Tegu help and advice wanted

graham27 Nov 15, 2005 11:07 AM

Hi, I have got 3 black and white baby Tegu's, they still have the greenscales on their heads, my largest one occasionally gets tremmors, his toes all twitch and the muscles in his legs and body all twitch, this seams to happen every 2-3 days, can anyone tell me what might be the cause of this and more impotantly how to cure it, I have them on orchid bark about 2" deep am I best to change to newspaper and what should the humidity be. Hope someone can help.

Graham

Ten to one, your tegu is hypocalcemic. You should 1) put a good UVB source on it 2) check the diet you are feeding it to make sure you are giving enough calcium and in the proper ratio to phosphorous (3-2:1 Ca:Ph) 3) make sure it is getting vitD3 supplements and 4) take him to a good vet to make sure the animal isn't suffering some something more serious.
