What does it mean when a grown corn decides to spend nearly all his time immersed in the water dish? I checked and there's no sign of mites, his last couple of sheds have been fine, and he doesn't appear to be having problems defecating (he does that in the water--Yuck). Temps are fine. (I'm not letting him winter in the garage, could it be he wants to be cold?).

Well if there are no mites and his temps are fine, the only thing that comes to mind is he is going into shed. One of my black rat snakes soaks in his water bowl almost the entire shed process. Just keep an eye on him, and if he isnt going into shed, dont know why. Maybe the humidity is not high enough for him. I know in the winter months the humidity goes down and snakes will soak in water bowls more often. Just make sure you are giving him fresh water every other day while he is soaking in it.

I agree with hotshot. BUT, watch him carefully! If he spends too much time in there he can develope blisters and you would have to remove his water bowl entirely!
