OMG! I have NEVER done this!!

Stryder Nov 15, 2005 03:41 PM

I have had snakes for over 30 years, and I have NEVER had this happen. Not ever had an escape!

OK, so I was in a hurry. Had company. Wanted to finnish cleaning all my cages. Got everything in order.

I go in this morning, and there is an empty cage. I didn't latch the latch on Samson's cage well enough. I go digging about looking for him, and I find a python that I didn't even know was missing. (I don't know how he got out. His cage was still closed, and he has a couple scrs where he looks like he pinched himself.

No sign of Samson the corn snake. I don't even know where to look. My kids are gonna be mad!! I don't know if he coulda squeezed out under the door of the snake room into the house. Or maybe he got back into the crawl space.....

Two snakes in one day!! I am such a bad mom!! How do you find a lost snake in a carpeted room?

Well if your corn matches or blends in with your carpet your gonna have some trouble. What you want to do is pour flour infront of your door and every other door in the house so you will know which room he enters and which room he leaves. At night check heat sources like radiators and heat sources in the room you think he might be in. Place a small bowl of pinkies in the middle of the room where he's escaped at night. With luck you will find him, some people find snakes out of the blue some people loose snakes for good and some people loose them and have had there snakes reapear in a year or 2. Always check shelves for corns because they are agile and keep an eye and ear open, Good luck.

Start searching EVERYWHERE! Look high (on top of pix frames, window blinds, etc), look low (under sofas, fridges, stoves (but don't squish him). Look inside laundry baskets, inside the clothes, etc. Look inside shoes. Look behind books. Look right next to and underneath his tank. Search very thoroughly boxes and baskets and bags. Look inside any cabinets and drawers. Don't forget the bathroom.

Some people will put flour on the floor right next to the walls (snakes can hugs the borders of rooms to travel) to see where their snake has been. Some people will sit up at night with a flashlight and turn it on every once in a while to check for the snake. If you have any animals, watch their behavior. If the cat is watching an area very carefully, go check to see if your snake is there.

Thanks so much for the replies. I am so embarassed! I have never lost a snake like that!

Well, I found him pretty much where I suspected that he might be. I just caught his tail end as he slithered under the big snake tank. I couldn't pull him out. I was afraid of hurting him.

Now I just gotta think of somebody I know who is not deathly afraid of snakes to come help me lift this heavy melamine cage so I can get him out.

Anybody?
