aspen is what I use, I dont know if it is any better than cypress, but it easier to clean, its cheaper and I think it looks better, but that is just my opinion..
thanks

i personally like bounty paper towels. easy clean up and now worry about accidental ingestion.

I use Cypress. It holds humidity great for my pythons, its not hard to clean and it is easy to come by. I really like it for the shed aspect. I have never had a bad shed with cypress.

I use cypress for my high humidity snakes and aspen for my rosies and sand boas. The cypress does not mold as easily when damp and is really cheap when purchased at home depot. Just dont get the dyed cypress mulch. JMHO

I use white cotton towels, and just wash a bunch when they are dirty.

I use paper towels for my hatchlings...

I'd like to use aspen but I feed FT and don't want them to injest the aspen....

I used to use mainly aspen shavings and such, but lately I'm all about the carefresh. The new kind is great and it comes in different colors..
I really like the idea of using paper towel, but the probes for my digital thermometers are all hot-glued to the floor of the tubs over the heat source. I would have to calibrate it so that my temps were right first. I would want to use a good few layers of paper towel to absorb and kind of spillage or fluid.
The way I have it now, I just have my helix set to 95 and about an inch of carefresh for substrate.

You hot-glued your probes to the tubs?
What happens when you need to change a tub?

I use cypress mulch too. under $2 for a big bag of it.

Hot-glue is strong enough to stay attached to the plastic tubs even with snakes constantly moving over them yet is easily scraped off with a knife. I've had to do it many times..

Normally Cypress Mulch, but a wild caught female that had not eaten in 13 months started eating when I changed to potting soil...
