uncoordination

fwaaette Nov 15, 2005 04:14 PM

Recently I have noticed that my boyfriend's chameleon has been acting abnormal. One day I found him in the bottom of the cage and not moving a whole lot. I took him home, and have been watching him very carefully. He has not been eating, and his coordination has been very off. He will not climb or stay up on the branch. He does move slowly around the floor of the cage but that's about it. I know that he hasn't been under a UV light for a couple of months, and I'm sure that's not good for him. But he is well enough to know that he doesn't like me, he still tries to bite me everytime I stick my hand in the cage to pick up dead food, and clean the water catcher. I've also noticed that his tongue has a green/blue color. Can someone please advise.

Your Chameleon should be under UVB lighting, or at least be recieving regular vitamin D3,and Clacium supplements with their insects. Their toungues usually have pinkish, purple, or tan tongues; blue doesnt sound too strange it might have just bruised it or it could be normal, but green could be an infection, check the rest of the mouth and jaws for swelling, crustiness, puss, or other discoloration, any of that stuff could be signs of mouth rot (infectious stomatitis). Also of course make sure that the chameleon has sufficent heat, basking spot, food, water, ect; and that it is not physically injured. _josh topp
