crested gecko feeding

stage9 Nov 15, 2005 05:12 PM

I have 1.1 adult cresties and they are eating a fruit mix and doing well on it. I know that they should have live food also, and they don't seem to like crickets. I have a colony of Blaptica dubia in the works but not yet ready to be fed off. I was thinking of trying silkworms and feeding them of as moths. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, and any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

I was also considering getting some Clark's crested food, and was wondering what everyone thinks of it. Again, all feedback is appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Stage9,
dubia would be great to try your geckos on once they are able to be fed off. I don't feed roaches at the moment, so maybe some more experienced roach keepers could tell you which ones work best with the Rhacs. Some cresteds only eat insects when they are older, some love them, some hardly ever touch them. You'll have to try them and see.

As for Clark's Diet, I use it and I love it. My first crested was unfortunately one of the few picky ones that hated T-Rex to the point where she'd only eat enough to stay alive; she didn't grow for months. On Clark's she is growing steadily, and so now I feed Clark's, dusted crix, Crested Lady's Super Smoothie, and T-Rex and Clark's mixed. I will point out that Clark's is NOT a full Meal Replacement Powder (T-Rex is) but I believe that it is pretty darn good as one of the main portions of a crested's diet. It's easy to mix and tastes good enough that I can use it as bribes to tame new geckos. Hope this helps.
