Need opinions . . . What do you think?

nathan23 Nov 15, 2005 11:23 PM

I know a lot of you have seen some of my photos. Although not all were that great, I do have some outstanding pics. I have a couple thousand pictures on my computer. I was thinking about getting a table at the next local reptile show and framing and selling some. I think this would be a great oppertunity for people who just cant take another reptile home to still go home with something. And even people who have a ton will enjoy them as well. Question is would you buy one if they were reasonably priced and great photos?

I have photos of all kinds of animals not to mention a ton of beardie photos.

I did sell off all my photos that were at the chicago show in the contest. so that kinda sparked this idea.

peace,
nate

Nathan, I'd buy them. I can't speak for other people, but reptiles are so fascinating. And yes, as much as I'd like a chameleon, I really can't add to my reptile family any more.

I think if they were reasonably priced, you would do well.

If you are prepared to accept not gaining money from this, go for it! Not to say that you won't sell well, but you have to be prepared for anything!

And buy the way, I too am a fan of your photos. Who knows you might even be commisioned to take a few photos while you are there.

I hope you can recognize the spirit of this posting.

Personally, I dont go to shows to purchase things like "art", t-shirts or other items peripharel to the pet trade. (then again, I have to travel at least 2 hours to GO to a Reptile show). Usually, I go to purchase items for my pets at a significant savings (like frozen Mice) or to see the animals available in this ever growing trade.

Not to say that you arent a good photographer or couldn't make this successful. I wouldnt be purchasing such an item at a Reptile show. Maybe your talents would be better spent in doing portraits for people.

I think the best venue for this kind of thing would be a local arts/crafts festival (we have a lot of them around here). That way, you could sell some of your work AND be an educator on these animals as well.

Thanks for your opinions

I have given this a lot of thought and I think I might trry it out. I agree with you about going to get things for the animals but I have seen a lot of stuff sold there that isnt even animal related. And its hard to find a good photo of a reptile for sale. I dont think there are any arts and crafts swaps around here.

And the only cost of me doing it is $30 for the table. I might have some dragons to sell as well dont know yet though. anyways thanks again.

peace,
nate
