GHOST GOING FOR A WILD RIDE!

bytheshore1 Nov 16, 2005 04:25 AM

I know this might be for the hybrid section but it is a neat picture of my ghost ball. He likes em big so I thought I would check him out with my adult female borneo. You could just see the excitement in his eyes! He just aint used to dominant girls. She wrapped her tail around him and held on. I never saw them hook up but will try again later. Sorry to all the anti hybrid folks. Just had to try. Thanks, Tim

WOW. He's definitely in for one helluva ride. If they do end up locking up that's the first step toward HYPO Borneoballs. CRAZY!! Have there been any morphs produced yet with that cross?

Misskiwi67 Nov 16, 2005 08:39 AM

I don't think they've crossed ball python morphs into the borneos, but they did cross albino reds with the borneos. (pretty sure anyway)

Very nice!!!! I hope it works out for you, I would totally love to get a blood ball, they are awesome looking.

your right to do what you want with your snakes. I just don't understand why anybody would want to produce hybrid junk by crossing balls into anything else. Especially if you have a highly sought hypo/ghost. There's so much potential with a hypo and such a demand to add that gene to other ball morphs.

"Especially if you have a highly sought hypo/ghost."

Yea, but what if YOU want a highly sought super ball(I think thats what they are calling blood/ball crosses), then this is the right way to get one.

I know I have seen the blood/balls before, but I don't remember seeing how much one would cost, or who had them. But I'm sure if you could buy one it would cost big money! And that is if anyone would sell one.

I'm not going to get into the hybrid thing, some like them some don't, I do like some of them and see nothen wrong with it.

Super balls go for about $5K or $10K a pair. Seems I've seen quite a few of them for sale or maybe it's the same ones that someone can't get rid of??? It's a matter of taste I guess.

Not as bad as I thought they would be, Thanks.

You said you've seen a lot of them, or just the sameone for sale, could you tell me who has them? either here or message me.

Thanks.

toshamc Nov 16, 2005 11:36 AM

Off the top of my head I can't think of who it would be - I remember seeing them in the pythons classifieds but haven't looked in there lately - also I remember seeing them in the Daytona pictures, someone had them in Anaheim too - I even took a picture of them - but couldn't tell you who's table they were one. Sorry - some things stick and some don't.

If I remember correctly it is Steve Roussis at Roussis reptiles, who has F1 hybrids aka "Superballs" from a ball X marbled borneo blood. Also he has been succesful in producing F2 animals from Superball X Superball, meaning both males and females are fertile.

The F1 animals should all look quite alike, due to heterosis aka Hybrid vigour, but the F2 animals should all vary between the two parent species, but with a random reassortment of genes. (as with a het X het breeding, but with regards to all genes).

Hope this helps,
Dan
