Lined leaftail update (sad news)

honuman Nov 16, 2005 11:50 AM

First the good news in baby number one is still doing fine.
The sad news is that baby number two died while attempting to hatch.

About 3am I woke up so (like the nut that I am when I wake up in the middle of the night.) I started looking at all my nocturnal critters moving around and checked the second egg. It was hatching out so I took a few pictures and went back to bed.

This morning I noticed it hadn't progressed any further. I touched the exposed membrane gently to see if was moving and it did not. I decided to check and see what was happening and sure it enough it was dead.

Well at least I have the one. Very strange though the membrane was not dried out the baby inside was nice and moist to. It sort of looked like she turned her head around the wrong way from where she was hatching and go stuck.

Steve
