anyone familiar with" conophis lineatus" from central america?

They are apparently quite aggressive and bite readily. Furthermore, their bites often produce envenomations similar to scorpion stings (localized swelling of the hand and wrist, pain for a day or so, tenderness for up to a week). Theoretically, a person could have an allergic response to the venom that could be much more serious.

Not a particularly good captive snake, IMHO.

Basically what Chris said was true--except the symptoms vary greatly. I have been envenomated by Conophis l. several times. The worst was a double bite (I was holding two of them in one hand) and they both got me for prolonged chews.

I had minimal local swelling and a burning sensation which lasted for about 15 minutes. That was it. However, I have a good picture of someone's hand that is completely swollen and discolored by a Conophis bite.
