Sticking to glass

orange_couch Nov 16, 2005 04:29 PM

Why is it that tree frogs stick to the glass of even a well planted terrarium? I want my frogs to enjoy their enclosure. Has anyone had success with their frogs not sticking to the glass all the time?

Yep.

I actually only have a few photos of my frogs sticking to glass, and they always need persuasion to do so.

I have a 30 gal tall terrarium, live planted with a ficus moclame and a peace lilly, and a young but growing ficus benjamina.

The two RETFs I have have never slept on anything except the moclame. They're always stuck to a leaf ( Sometimes one hanging down, sometimes one that's supported, or sometimes hanging upside down from one that's supported ).

If I don't disturb them then the only evidence I get that they go on the glass is little pitty paw prints all over it from when they've been in water just before.

If I'm handling them and they can't get a clean jump to the waterfall or the trees when they're done, they sometimes jump onto the glass.

Hope this helps.

Probbaly just depends on your frogs, and what they feel comfortable with. I bought jointed pipes (big thick ones, I was going fo that hollow tree thing..) for my whites because I read that they like to hang out in hollow trees in the wild. they both LOVE them, and I never see them om the glass anymore.

it also depends on the species of frog you have, when my brother had GTF's (pacific) they did spend a lot of time on the glass no matter what we did, its a smooth surface, so it probbaly feels good on their skin.
