Hello, Im seeking information about turtle ponds. I plan on building what will be a indoor 560 gallon pond in my basement, 5 feet long, 5 feet wide, 3 feet high. That will be the water area only. Im curious on a few things I havnt been able to find, can small res and large res live togethor? How many turtles total could live in a tank of that size? Thank you, if you know any good res websites also please tell me.

Try austinsturtlepage for some good turtle info. Big and small RES can get along usually, but it depends on the turtle, little ones are vulnerable to attack by larger aggressive turtles. The rule of thumb is 10 gallons of water per inch of turtle, so 56 inches of turtle could live in there. That is roughly 4 adult females, and maybe one male. More than one male may fight if there are females present. Make sure they can all bask outside of the water at the same time to avoid stress.

I wouldn't put males and females together. If there is no area to lay eggs, the females could egg bind. If there is an area to lay eggs, and no one notices that they are there, you'll end up with more sliders. There are more sliders for adoption than we can ever find homes for, so breeding is HIGHLY discouraged. Go all male or all female, but not both.
