CBC (Toronto, Ontario) 16 November 05 Cat and lizard start fire in P.E.I.
A cat and a lizard are being blamed for starting a fire in a Charlottetown apartment Wednesday morning.
The gecko lizard was lounging under a heat lamp inside an aquarium when the cat decided to attack.
The feline knocked over the aquarium and the heat lamp ended up on top of a pile of clothes.
That pile of laundry caught on fire, spread to a mattress and filled the apartment with smoke.
Jody Howard said she was sleeping in the next room and woke up when the smoke detector went off.
"I didn't even know where the fire was, I looked through the house and couldn't find it," she said.
"So I just called 911, grabbed the cat, threw him in the car, and then went upstairs to get the guy who lives upstairs, and told him to get out."
Firefighters hauled the smouldering mattress out of the apartment building and doused it with water. None of the people in the apartment building were injured.
