a question and some shedding pics

batista Nov 16, 2005 09:40 PM

hey everyone,
we are avid readers and scarce posters but had a question (and some pictures)
does anyone know if there are any major nutritional differences between yellow and red endive? we've been using the yellow variety and our baby mali, batista, loves it. i've been eyeing the red endive for some time now, however.

today batista shed and we got picture crazy, here are a few:

his belly during an escape attempt

wearing a "cape"

"blowing in the wind"

from afar

towards the end

ha ha, i like that blowing in the wind picture. do you have a humidity box for him? my malis never peel in big pieces like that, it's not flakey pieces but like a patch here and a week later another patch and so on and i always feel that i am doing something wrong but i can't have substrate or dampened substrate for fear of helga's "healing" feet getting infected again

yeah, batista usually sheds the rest of himself in pieces, like this time his head shed in three parts, days apart. we've only had him for a year, and this is the second time he has gone through a shed cycle. both times, his body was the only part that shed in huge pieces, over the span of about three days.
the first time we had a box for him, but about a month ago we removed the box because he prefered to sleep under rocks, and never used it. he seems to have shed the same way with and without the box, so i wouldn't worry.
last time he actually ate all of his body skin right off his back, then got impacted and we had to give him a bath to help him get rid of it. so, this time we snatched most of it away, and he only got a nibble or two for himself!

i have always wondered if that is a male thing because helga does not eat skin, but hugo loves to eat the skin, like one time when helga was peeling, he ripped the skin right off her back, that really weirded me out and i asked him not to do that in front of me again
