Florida hybrids

mjf Nov 17, 2005 01:29 AM

As many of you know, Coral Island in Florida is home to a breeding colony of nile monitors. I was wondering if asian water monitors would create hybrids. Would they even breed?

I believe he was referring to Cape Coral, which is in the Ft. Myers vicinity on the western coast of Florida. There has been an introduced population of Niles living there for quite some time now, and are increasing their range each year; posing a serious threat to the native wildlife and corresponding ecology..

If you try you can learn something new every day! I wasnt doubting the story but my wife and I were both very excited to hear about this. Id love to see a wild nile....that didnt just get off a plane. Ive seen plenty of those.
