waxworm problems. feedback needed!

stage9 Nov 17, 2005 04:06 PM

I have 1.1 adult leos and they have recently been very picky and not eating much at all. IM an effort to get them eating again, yesterday I picked up some waxworms. The geckos seemed to love them, each of them eating 5 or 6(the worms were on the small side). Today I looked in thier tank to see that they had defecated, and the waxworms did not seem digested at all. I was happy that they were eating again, although I know I can't use waxworms as a staple diet. I am now getting kind of worried that there might be something wrong. Please give me some advice! Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks a lot!!

If the waxworms look undigested, chances are they threw them up. My first question to you would be what their temps are in the tank. I think either your leos are sick or your temps are too low.

I have seen this problem too. anorexic geckoes who have not been easting seem to get a little upset tummy if they then gorge down several waxies in one big meal. Try a smaller meal of just a couple waxies, and of course, check all your husbandry again, which you should have done when they stopped eating. If it happens with even a small meal, you may need a vet

Sounds like parasites to me, my female did the same thing when she had pinworms.
