I mean when the babies get to full size (breedable sizes) wouldn't you have to wait for brumation, shedding, pregnancy, incubation? So that would be early 08 that you would see babies right? I may be wrong as I don't know when you want to breed because everyones different. What if it does prove to be a true morph? Then you will be getting $$$ from many big breeders trying to produce these rare new comers. People would have to give you credit on there morph websites and say (insert your name here) produced this (insert new morph name here) corn. Quite exciting. Are all the babies feeding? How much are you going to sell them for? I'm predicting a couple hundred bucks because that would be the smart thing It doesn't look like any corn and the closest it looks like is a variable ghost (with a lot of yellow) or a butter.

BlueKing Nov 17, 2005 08:58 PM

Well, at least in the summer of 07' I would have a SURE answer about the genetic makeup, as I am expecting at least 25% of the babies to be gold if everything pans out the way I expect. . .
Selling price would depend on my success and amount of available golden babies less = more$; More = less$
I have a good head start already, since all of the babies exhibit a nice light gray background color like mom (much lighter than other cornsnakes from around here) A light background color and a rich yellow would certainly rival mandarin ratsnakes in beauty. . .maybe?

Not not maybe.... Totally! This might be a long process however, Let say in 07 you have 25% gold (this is an obvious reccesive if it is a trait), that 25% would be from sibling to sibling. However if you breed sibling to mom wouldn't you get 50% golds, 50 %normals? Do you think they would be AS gold as the mother or lesser gold? If its less gold then they would be lesser Golds wink wink And yes I see the silverish background on some babies. I would shoot for lesser golds, golds, super golds (Gold X Gold). But that would mean that the gold would have to be a co-dom to get super golds

BlueKing Nov 17, 2005 10:58 PM

You're completely right about the percentages. But I think that if I breed a sibling to the mother I will probably get a variety of shades (of gold) out of the babies. I don't think the gold colors' intensity is lessened or strengthened simply because a parent animal is het. And yes, I would definetely be shooting for the "Super golds" (I like that term, lol!).

* and opens up a Pabst*

From what I know a Ghost is properly referred to a morph that can only be derived from breeding a axanthic or a anerythristic to a hypomelanistic and breeding the hets to propduce that 1/16th GHOST. But I have heard of people labeling the ghost term incorrectly (rosy boas and ghost cal king come to mind) to a light snake that lacks red and yellow pigment. IMO this is not really a ghost because if one calls that a ghost what do you call the DH hypomelanistic X axanthic/anerythritic.

Oh jeeeeesh

Aaron Nov 17, 2005 10:35 PM

A ghost is a double morph that is both hypomelanistic and anerythristic (or hypo and axanthic). Like bluerosy said there are some species were some other inheritable trait has been called ghost and it has been accepted.
In Graybands a true ghost (hypo & anery) has already been produced so the name is already taken.
Can you post a pic of your snake?
