2005 Brazilian Rainbow Boa PICs

Jeff Clark Nov 17, 2005 06:48 PM

...I had the camera out while I was cleaning cages today. These are some of the 2005 Brazilian Rainbow Boas, Epicrates cenchria cenchria.

These next two have some squiggles on their backs.

This one wanted to show some of the bullseye markings on her sides.

This one is very light with lots of white up on her sides.

This is one of the dark ones that were born in one litter.

This last one is one of the het hypos that I got from Celia Chien. I picked this one out because she has different looking markings.

Congrats on acquiring a het for hypo. Those are still out of my financial reach, but I should admit, I am growing fonder of them. It'll be really cool to see what happens in the next few years with the hets.

Your '05's are super. Maybe in another few years I'll have come closer to my desired look. Several of you breeders have such beautiful snakes. I can hardly wait until the ones I've chosen and raised are mature enough to breed.

I don't really understand how this hobby grabbed me so strongly and quickly. Maybe it was that little head and neck that stretched to the top of it's translucent sac and breathed air for the first time...like a prehistoric event of some type. Absolutely demanded my attention and respect....too cool.

Linda,
...It really is strange how this hobby is so addictive. To me there is just something about the beauty of the snakes and the amazing life processes they go through and the feeling of accomplishment when they reproduce that keeps me interested.

If you think it is addictive now, Just wait until more morphs pop out. I think we have just scratched the surface of what is possible. I have been spending too much time around Ball Python People and have realized the unfathomable diversity that the strands of DNA possess. Two slightly odd ball pythons can create something VERY different when bred together. Keep an Eye out for interesting rainbowboas and who knows, maybe dedicated rainbowboa breeders can start to unlock the potential of this fabulous species.
The white sided snake that Jeff Posted is awesome, Who knows, it may also prove genetic. What I am waiting for is co-Dominant rainbowboa mutations. I am not sure that many actually exist...Maybe patternless Colombians, maybe this weird double spotting inside the dorsal circles of Colombians, and maybe the HYPO Colombian that someone recently posted. All it takes is time, dedication and a little record keeping. The best thing about all of these rainbowboa morphs is that you are adding to one of the worlds most beautiful reptiles and therefore even the hets will look good.....

It is nearly 3:00 am in Texas, That means that you are up REAL LATE over on the east coast....
Your snakes are great...now get some sleep.

I havent been on the rainbowboa forum in almost a year (except for a few hours after daytona... I was tired at 9pm tonight, but didnt go to bed, now I am wide awake when I should be very asleep. While I am up I might just drop a few picts of my own. I also wanted to bring up the Brazilian/Peruvian distinctions again. I hope that I am not beating a dead horse ot bringing up issues that have been fully discussed while i was not looking.

Bryan,
....I work three nights every other week. I have been working nights for years and have become a night person. I was up extra late last night to sleep today to work tonight. That is a beautiful snake. I think I see why you liked mine with the whitesides. I will keep it and see how it turns out.
