Information is power. Acting on information can be even more powerful. It’s important to understand that you do not have to be an expert in every area of keeping reptiles. What is more important is a willingness to learn and knowing where to go to find answers. For new and old keepers alike, I’d like to offer the following list of resources:
1) The Kingsnake forum is packed with information and knowledgeable people.
2) Before asking a question, however, use the forum search feature. It’s called “Search Forums”. It’s not as powerful as I would like and takes time to navigate, but it can be a great source of answers for those repeated or not so common questions.
3) At the top of the forum list, you’ll see a little thumbtack. This item will always be at the top of the forum list and contains some important information. If you have not read it, give it a quick read. It’s there to help you.
4) Interested in the medical aspects of keeping? How about cage building or feeding? Kingsnake has those forums available. So before you ask a question in the Ball Python forum about wiring flexwatt, it might be better answered in the cage building forum. All these forums and more can be found by going to the forums link at the top of the Kingsnake page.
5) If you don’t find the answer you are looking for, the internet is full of information. You can Google just about anything.
6) Articles. Many of the posters on the Kingsnake forum have websites and many of those websites contain articles. Those can be a great source of information.
7) Do you want to know if an event is coming up in your area? Check the events link.
8) Need an FAQ or care sheet? Yes, Kingsnake has one of those as well.
This is but a small source of resources - we can’t mention anything not Kingsnake – but it’s still packed full of information. Use it well, and you will do well.
If you have links to great resources, please send them my way. I’m going to compile a complete list of resources.
I hope you found this tip useful. Do you have any husbandry tips? I’d love to hear.
