Philothamnus........

philodryas Nov 18, 2005 03:02 AM

I posted in the "what kind" forum before but maby someone here can say for sure....

I bought these two snakes as 1.1 Philothamnus macrops but they look so different so my question is.... Are they P.macrops and are they even the same species if not, what are they?

Cheers, Ronny

My African Snake guide book states that macrops is a bewildering range of colours and very variable to uniform green, green with irregular black crossbars, blotches or spots, half rings on the body and/or white half rings. The top photo is identical to the one in the photo in the book but none of the other species look like the one in the lower photo, so it is safe to assume it is also macrops. Just keep an eye on its eye. If it develops in proportion to the other one with a similar sized eye to head comparison, then perhaps it will be confirmed as macrops. Here is what may be an Angolan green bush snake as I have yet to confirm this species myself.

Babies are easy to take to pinks, just scent with frogs.
