More great pics!
Let me ask you about this.
In the ornates in my region the males have much larger thicker tails than the females but until I took in a couple of males I'd never really noticed this about them, I wasn't paying attention.

I'm seeing a diff not just in the tails but also the back legs of the male ornates. The back legs seem to be thicker, heavier, more muscular looking than the females, my question is this:
Is that also true of the FL box turtles? Do the FL males have heavier back legs too?

In Florida Box turtles the males have longer tail and are bulkier all around including the legs, shell size, head size, etc.. Thanks for the compliments.

You are welcome & thank you for the response about the size.
So far I am finding that these wild males don't seem to be larger in shell size than females but the shell is often more flat shaped than females.
Their legs though are a different story. Even my giant sized 1 & 1/2 lb female who is one of the biggest box turtles I've ever seen does not have those bulky legs.

could you please take a look at these 3 photos and tell me if they look to be the same species as your florida box? thank you./p

Thats does appear to be a female Florida Box, a nice specimen at that. It has a bit more yellow on the legs than I have commonly seen on Floridas, mainly females though, it may just be a nice colorful specimen. Looks beat up, good luck with it!

thanks. I have gone back and looked at her (?) with purpose and I think that the photos are more brightly colored than she. She was fostered to me by a local animal shelter after being mauled. I have had her to a vet. I have learned quite a bit here as to her care. thanks again.
