Costa Rica Boa photos...

RioBravoReptiles Nov 18, 2005 03:54 PM

Here are some samples of what mine looked like..
.

.

.
The whole group belongs to my good friends Dave and Tracy now.. good luck! These were the ONLY Boa I had ever kept that would not tame down.. in fact as they aged they became worse. I am extremely tolerant of poor behaviour in Boa.. but I'm thinking if I had kept them another few months my buddy below might have found his way into their cages!

Amazeing contrast no doubt !
Their personality is primarely the reason I didnt purchase this form last year from Kevin. He had me a 1:1 that could possibly rival the ones pictured here. But I think I'll just view them in someone elses projects from here on .......

My Costa Ricans are the only boas I have that will strike at me when the smell of rats is not present. With that said I guess I was lucky, I don't have a problem with them once they are out of the cage. It took time to get them where they are though. Once there are some US captive breeding I think we can tame them down better. They are definately my favorite mainland imperator locale.

One pair I had was captive bred and raised (there are people breeding them here).. they were the worst!

Another myth.. that they will stay small.. maybe.. if 8' is a small boa.

Very much true!
VERY Conservetive feedings are in order from day one.
Otherwise 8 ' of "pissedoffattheworld" BCI aint a joy to own/keep.

Best Of Luck

The big one in the first pic looked to be around 8 feet.

Some others that shared the space. The worker laughed when I asked to take one of these guys out. He did take a couple other nasty acting ones out that were a bit more manageable. Look at the tail on Big Momma......They were all beautiful.

This one was the only one out of a litter of 22(i think that's the right number) that tuned out like this. This animal is Quetzal Dwyer's of Reptilandia.

I will have to keep handleing them and hope for the best.
I didn't know they could reach 8ft though, I figured 6. There really isn't much info out there to read up on these guys.

Besides they are just too beautiful to not work with.

Here is the male the day I got him.

RioBravoReptiles Nov 18, 2005 07:09 PM

that pic. is about a year and a half old and so far still tame in fact the male has calmed down he never struck or bit but sometimes I thought he was thinking about it, he's better know. but you are right Gus their not Dwarf's after only a year and a half my female is almost caught up with my three and a half year old Nicaraguan's

Not the boas, the other. I think its some type of King, but what exactly is it? that thing is awesome looking. Excellent picture too. Do you have anymore of that snake? Did you find that thing?

....It has dark lines coming down below the eye and those dark markings angling down along the lower side of the neck and the overall lighter head color of a Texas Indigo rather than an Eastern Indigo. I think Gus posed the snake like that so we could easily see the upper labial scales to make positive ID. Eastern Indigos have darker black heads and usually but not always have red or red-orange lower jaw and throat.
