hello all, i have had my california kingsnake for about 6 months and its about 2 and a half feet long. anyways i was wondering if, just for fun, I could give him a cricket ? thank you in advance for your help

I don't think he will go for it, but i have heard some snakes that feed on rodents have eaten crickets that were loose in there cages. I don't think it may be a good idea though.

Crickets ARE NOT part of a kingsnake's diet, it would not digest the cricket properly and will in the end cause some harm. No good can come of it.
I think there is probably no harm in it. Snakes can digest bone, hair, and flesh. They can digest just about anything in fact. But only little babies would ever eat insects really, and never feed them insects alone. It's not really part of kingsnake diet, so, just once in a while wont hurt.

I did this with my desert king a couple of days ago. I was feeding my banded geckos in an adjacent cage and the snake seemed to take an interest when a cricket moved past the glass. I put a cricket in with him and he "ran away." I'm sure the reaction would've been more favorable had I put a gecko in there!
